The AMX-13 PDP Mle.51 was not as successful as the light tank version. Its lightness and little resistance to the passage of heavy vehicles made it used in small quantities. Only France, Indonesia (10 units), and Argentina (2 units) were its users.

It took around 3 minutes to place it in position or recover it. During that time, the vehicle was vulnerable to enemy fire due to its enormous height during this operations.

This vehicle was designed to support light armored units and not heavy tank units, hence its limited diffusion and success in the market.

A superstructure was installed instead of the AMX.13 turret. In its place part of the hydraulic equipment for bridge launching was installed. The bridge is deployed from the rear of the vehicle.
