LEOPARD 1 MBT

In July 1963 the Krauss-Maffei firm was commissioned to produce the Leopard 1 MBT. This order ended a period of almost 5 years of design and development of the Leopard tank. Since its entry into service and for more than 20 years, the Leopard 1 has been the most commercially successful western tank with nearly 4,800 manufactured, in addition to more than 1,700 bridge-launching, engineering, anti-aircraft, recovery and mine-sweeping vehicles. Despite almost 60 years of service, there are still over 1,000 active Leopard 1s left, albeit of the most recent variants, but the basic design has remained unchanged, giving an idea of its exceptional quality.
