URO VAMTAC ST5 BN.3

In 2013, the Spanish UROVESA company presented an armored variant derived from the VAMTAC ST5 4×4 vehicle at the HOMSEC Salon in Madrid. The idea was to offer a light protected vehicle with sufficient protection to be able to fulfill patrol missions in low intensity conflict zones. Usually, these are the type of missions that the International Peacekeeping Forces carry out. However, this vehicle can also perform advanced reconnaissance missions thanks to its armour. Based on this premise, the VAMTAC ST5 is offered in two armored variants designated as BN.2 and BN.3. The BN.3 version is built according to the NATO Standard STANAG 4569 and offers Level 3 ballistic protection and against mines and IEDs explosions. Since 2015 it has been entered service with different units of the Spanish Army such as Brigada Paracaidista (Paratroopers Brigade) or Regimiento de Cazadores de Montaña (Mountain Troops Regiment). In addition the Infanteria de Marina (Navy Marines) requested a modified version conditioned to wade water courses, which has resulted in the “VSP” variant.
