Sav m/43

The Stormartillerivagn m/43 or Sav m/43 began its development in 1941, when the Swedish Army requested a powerful armed vehicle that would give fire support to infantry in its advance. After several years of study, in 1944 Scania-Vabis took the chassis of the Czech TNH medium tank, manufactured under license in Sweden, and developed a self propelled assault gun. For that purpoise, a 75mm Bofors gun was mounted inside a superstructure that was installed over a modified TNH tank chassis. A first batch of 18 vehicles was produced and delivered to the units in 1945, and due to the excellent capacities of the m/43, it was decided to manufacture a second batch of 18 more vehicles. All vehicles were modified by mounting a new 105mm Bofors gun around 1947, and they were in service until 1973.
