The V4 R-Darter had the same capabilities as the medium-range missile AMRAAM according to South African sources. What is certain is that when it came into service in the late 90’s, it had really bright performances.

Several R-Darter missiles could be launched simultaneously at different targets thanks to their capable pulse-doppler multi-mode radar, possibly the Elbit EL/M-2032, although this data is not totally contrasted due to the official secrecy of the SAAF.

The missile was very resistant to electronic countermeasures (ECMs) and with its double guidance system selection, it is a fearsome opponent in aerial mid-range combat.
