DONGHAE class

South Korea maintains a strong Armed Forces in anticipation that its northern neighbour will one day pass threats to the events. Its Navy is composed of destroyers and frigates that give it considerable power, but also has a huge fleet of patrol vessels, essential to control its own waters and surrounding areas. The four Donghae class corvettes were included in this last category and were specially adapted ships for ASW missions. For this task they had two triple 324mm Mk.32 torpedo launchers armed with Mk.46 torpedoes, and they also have a Type Mk.9 depth charges launcher. Donghae class ships entered service in 1983 and were modern ships with advanced electronic equipment such as the Raytheon AN/SPS-64 surface search radar, the Signaal SEWACO ZK combat system and the EDO 786 hull-mounted sonar. The propulsion was of the CODOG type with a gas turbine and two diesel engines that allowed them to reach more than 30 knots and a range of 4,000 miles at 15 knots. Three ships were decommissioned between 2009 and 2010 and one was donated to the Colombian Navy in 2011.
