TIRAN-6

During the Yom Kippur War, started on October 8, 1973, when the Syrian Forces attacked by surprise the Golan Heights and the Egyptian Army crossed the Suez Canal, Israel managed to overcome the surprise and initial defeats to end up defeating their opponents in less than two weeks, on October 20, 1973. The Arab armored forces were composed mostly by T-54, T-55 and the newer T-62 tanks, which after a spectacular initial advance, were stopped hardly by Israel’s Aviation and Army that managed to capture several hundred of them. The T-62s captured were improved in all aspects as the engine, the gun, the radio equipment, the rangefinder and the sights for the gunner. These electronic equipments were replaced by North American devices that gave the tank a considerable improvement over the original model. The improved tanks were designated as Tiran 6, and with them, two full brigades were formed with a total of about 100 tanks in service.
