HYUNMOO-1

The Hyunmoo-1 surface to surface missile is the conversion from the American Nike Hercules surface to air missile into a new one, capable to attack terrestrial targets. South Korea started the tests in 1982, and in 1986 the first missiles were ready to be deployed. The missile carries a 480 kg warhead and its maximum range is about 180 km. South Korea signed an agreement with the United States where they pledged that range would be limited to these 180 km. The entire Hyunmoo program was made under American supervision and a limited series of missiles were built in the 1990s.
