Breguet BR.521 BIZERTE
The Breguet BR-521 Bizerte is the French version of the British Short S.8 Calcutta flying boat, that was also built under license by Breguet between 1931-32 under designation S.8 / 2. After the first 4 units delivered, 27 more Bizerte followed and were assigned to the E1, E2, E6 and E9 Squadrons of the french Naval Aviation mainly for reconnaissance tasks. The production extended from 1935 to 1938, when the last 4 seaplanes were delivered. After the French defeat, the survivors were yielded to the Vichy’s Navy, but at the end of 1942, when the Germans occupied this part of France, the 8 remaining Bizertes, were used by the germans in maritime and rescue missions. Two more seaplanes of the civil variant (Breguet 530 Saigon) were built and completed the production.
