Type 87 RCV
In the late 1970s, the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) needed new vehicles for reconnaissance missions, as until then it had relied on old vehicles that were not always the most suitable for this type of mission. In 1982, Komatsu manufactured the first “made in Japan” wheeled armoured fighting vehicle for the Japanese Army, the Type 82 “Shikitsu” Command Vehicle, and so decided to use this same vehicle to develop a new armed reconnaissance vehicle. Finally, in 1988, Komatsu delivered the first units of the “Type 87 Reconnaissance Combat Vehicle (RCV)”.
