TAMUZ / Spike NLOS / L-Spike 4X anti-tank missiles

Following the Yom Kippur War of 1973, Rafael company start the development of a new long-range missile equipped with an anti-tank warhead, which would result in a new missile designated “Tamuz” (Orange). This missile entered service around 1984 and was assigned to artillery units. Thanks to its long range of 25 km and its precise guidance system, it could almost be classified as a tactical surface-to-surface missile. With this missile, the Israeli Army was able to attack targets far beyond the front lines, including not only main battle tanks, but also command centers, troop concentrations, and infrastructure. In late 2009, the Tamuz missile was replaced by another, essentially a modernized and improved variant of itself, designated “Spike NLOS” (Non-Line-of-Sight). This new missile utilizes numerous components from the Spike anti-tank missile family and is therefore considered part of it.
