SUFFREN class

At the beginning of the 1960s, the French Marine Nationale commissioned the two Clemenceau-class aircraft carriers and considered equipping them with an escort made up of heavily armed destroyers. To do this, in 1960 the development of the Suffren-class destroyers began, ships equipped with a good variety of weapons to face air, surface and underwater threats. The class consisted of the D-602 Suffren and D-603 Duquesne vessels which were in service until 2001 and 2007 respectively.
