Pz Kpfw V ausf G “PANTHER G”

In March 1944, the production of the third variant of the Panther tank began, this was the Panther ausf G. Different modifications and improvements were incorporated as a result of the combat experience from the two previous variants. On this occasion the hull sides were widely modified, increasing the thickness from 40 to 50mm and changing its slope from 40º to 30º. In addition, the driver’s vision port of the front plate was eliminated to improve its strength and a rotating periscope was installed in its place. The driver’s seat could be raised to allow him to drive with his head outdoors. Another notable change was the replacement of the gun mantlet by a round cast mantlet, but this modification proved problematic and further improvements had to be made.
