POTI class

Between 1960 and 1968, construction of the Poti class corvettes took place. The Soviet designation for these vessels was “small ASW ships Project 204“. They were small ships but equipped with a powerful powerplant and an armament quite remarkable for its size. They had gas turbines installed, and they were the first Soviet Navy ships to carry them. With this powerplant they obtained a maximum speed of 38 knots, and they became the fastest ASW ships within the Red Fleet. Altogether, almost 70 ships were built in three Soviet Shipyards, of which six were transferred to the Bulgarian Navy in the period 1968-1983 and three more were also transferred to the Romanian Navy in 1970. Currently there are no units of this class in service in any Navy.
