Nora B-52 155mm self-propelled howitzer
Due to its policy of non-alignment during the Cold War, Yugoslavia wanted to possess, as far as possible, weapons systems manufactured entirely or mostly domestically. For this reason, it had been developing a network of state-owned factories for years. In 1976, the Yugoslav People’s Army (JNA) began developing a new high-performance howitzer, focusing on firepower and mobility. This work culminated in 1984 with the 152/39mm NORA-A towed howitzer. NORA is an acronym for “Novo ORuđe Artiljerije” (new artillery weapon tool). Following the success of this design, development began on a self-propelled howitzer by mounting a modified variant of them, the 152/45mm NORA-C, on an 8×8 FAP 2832 truck. However, this work was suspended due to the collapse of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Nevertheless, in the late 1990s, the Serbian company Yugoimport SDPR resumed work, which resulted in the 155mm Nora B-52 self-propelled howitzer. The first prototype was presented in 2003, and production began in 2006. Since then, a number of variants have been produced, keeping the vehicle constantly updated.
