MISTRAL class

The Mistral class helicopter carrier (LPH) or amphibious assault ships (LHD), are the most modern French Marine Nationale’s ships for amphibious operations. Since 2006, three ships are in service with the French Navy (Dixmude, Mistral and Tonnerre), and two more ships are in service with the Egyptian Navy. These vessels were transferred to Egypt following the cancellation of an agreement with the Russian Navy due to the Crimea Crisis. The Mistral class can operate with 30 helicopters and carry a landing force of 450 troops and up to 60 armored vehicles of various types including Leclerc main battle tanks. These ships have a hospital to serve 69 patients, with 7 beds suitable for intensive care and can exercise as a command ships, for which a staff of 150 people can be accommodated.
