HOUXIN class

In 1989, began the construction of the Type 037IG Houxin class missile boat, which are a variant armed with missiles, of the previous Hainan class patrollers. Until 1999, more than 25 vessels were built, six of which were exported to Myanmar between 1995 and 1997 and one to Sri Lanka. The main role of these vessels is the anti-ship combat and they have two twin YJ-1 (C-801), (or CSS-N-4 Sardine according to NATO designation), anti-ship missile launchers. This class entered service with the Chinese Navy in 1991, and was a low-cost version of the Type 037-II (Houjian) class corvettes, more powerful armed and faster than the Houxian class. Currently all remain in service with the PLAN (People’s Liberation Army Navy).
