The Gillois PA has two inflatable flotation chambers on each side, consisting of nine watertight sections to prevent flooding if any are damaged. When it acted as a fixed bridge, it carried sections of 8 x 4 meters.

In addition to France, West Germany, USA, UK and Israel were users of Gillois PA amphibious bridge. Israel used them in the Yom Kippur War to cross the Suez Canal in 1973.
