The Amur class repair ships can be considered as very successful type, since 28 ships were built in four different series in a period between 1968 and 1987.

Although all ships were built in Poland, they has been exclusively used by the Soviet or Russian Navy, with exception of one vessel transferred to Ukraine.

The Amur class floating workshops are distributed among the four Russian Fleets. These are; Baltic Fleet, Black Sea Fleet, Northern Fleet and Pacific Fleet.
