ROOIKAT
In 1976 the South African Army began to study the replacement of its Eland 60 and Eland 90 reconnaissance armored cars, initiating the so-called “New Generation Armored Car program”. These vehicles were practically South African copies of the French Panhard H-60 and AML-90 vehicles, but this time a much better vehicle was sought, with greater mobility, firepower and protection. In the period 1976-79 3 prototypes from different firms were presented to study the viability of the program and in 1982 another 3 new contenders emerged, of which in 1984 one of them was accepted to be manufactured under the designation Rooikat.
