DTCN F-17

In 1971, the “Direction Technique des Constructions Navales” or DTCN, developed the F.17 torpedo model. This 533mm torpedo is designed to be launched by submarines against surface ships and has two guidance systems. One is wired-guided and the other is an acoustic autonomous passive homing mode, and can be selected from the launch platform. Normally, the acoustic mode is automatically activated in the final phase of the attack, although can be wired-guided to the impact. There is the F.17P version to be launched from submarines or from surface vessels and it differs in the active / passive acoustic homing seeker guide system, and the E.18 model without the wired-guided system. This type is used by the Spanish Navy in their submarines and Saudi Arabia Navy in their frigates.
