TYPE 726 LCAC

In 2007 a new People’s Liberation Navy’s hovercraft type was seen for the first time. This new vehicle belonged to the Type 726 LCAC class and has been designated by NATO as “Yuyi” class. It is believed that two batches with different powerplants have been delivered. The first batch would consist of 3 units that have the Ukranian UGT-6000 engines installed, and the second batch would be formed by 3 other crafts that carry QC-70 Chinese-made gas turbines. These LCACs have a load capacity of about 60 tons and their usual load consists of a main battle tank (43 tons) plus 60 or 70 troops. It is posible that at least 5 more units have been under construction with designation Type 726A LCAC and they are basically an improved variant of the original Yuyi class.
