TYPE-11 / Tan-SAM Kai II

The Type.11 air defense missile is an evolution of the previous Type.81 system developed by Toshiba in the late 60s. The Type.11 is also known as “Tan SAM Kai II” and its development began in 2005, delivering the first units in 2014. The missile has an inertial guidance system from Kawasaki Heavy Industries with a Toshiba passive infrared homing for terminal guide. The range is estimated between 14 and 18 km and the missile guide can be modified in flight from the Fire Control Systems vehicle. A battery of Type.11 missiles usually consists of a Fire Control Systems vehicle, two launchers vehicles with 4 missiles each, and a pair of support vehicles. The missiles can be mounted on 4×4 Toyota Mega Cruiser light vehicles or on Type 73 Ougata trucks.
