RPK-9 MEDVEDKA / SS-N-29

In 2001, a new missile system began to be seen on the decks of some new Russian ships. The system was designated as RPK-9 Medvedka, or SS-N-29 according to NATO designation. It is an unguided antisubmarine missile as the American ASROC. Medvedka has a 324mm homing torpedo incorporated, which is released during flight at the right time. After release, the torpedo begins the autonomous search for the submarine to destroy it. This system can be installed on ships with a minimum displacement of 350 tons, on horizontal or vertical launchers of 2, 4 or 8 missiles. The system is being implemented gradually and is currently installed in the new Steregushchiy class corvettes and the new Admiral Gorshkov class frigates.
