MAZ-537

In 1956, began the studies for the construction of a tank transporter based on the heavy 8×8 MAZ-535 truck. The result was the MAZ-536 truck, which unfortunately was full of major problems, so it was decided to start another new project. This last program finally culminated in the successful 8×8 MAZ-537 tractor truck. The first trucks entered service in 1960 but were not publicly seen until 1964. The MAZ-537 had a powerful 525hp diesel engine and could tow loads of 50 tons, enough to carry any Soviet tank of the time. During its production, different modifications were added that gave rise to 4 different versions, known as: “early”, “intermediate”, “late” and “last” production types. There were several variants for cargo, such as the MAZ-537A / D / E / G / K / P and V. The L variant was an airfield tow tractor, and KET.T  was a heavy recovery wrecker. The production ceased in 1990, and in 1995 its successor was ready, the huge KZKT-7428 tractor-truck.
