Krupp 80cm K (E) “SCHWERER GUSTAV / DORA”

The megalomania of the German III Reich reached its zenith with the manufacture of the “80cm K (E)” or “Schwerer Gustav / Dora” or “Gustav Gerät” railway gun. This gun was not the largest caliber, with the longest barrel length or the longest range, but in absolute terms it is the largest mobile land weapon ever manufactured, as well as the largest gun in history put into service. Only one example of this gigantic weapon was operational, which was capable of firing 4.8-ton high-explosive (HE) shells at 47 km away, or the even more impressive 7.1-ton armor piercing (AP) shells at 38 km away.
