IKV-91 (Infanterikanonvagn 91)

In 1968 the Swedish Army awarded the Hägglunds firm to design a new combat vehicle dedicated to anti-tank combat with which to replace the outdated fleet of Strv-74 light tanks, and m/43, Ikv-102 and Ikv-103 self-propelled guns/tank destroyers. In December 1969, the first prototype of a new vehicle designated as “Ikv-91 (Infanterikanonvagn 91)” was delivered. Although according to this designation it was an “infantry assault gun”, it can actually be considered closer to a light tank, both for its shape, as well as for its main weapons and missions.
