Sd Kfz 222

The Sd Kfz.222 was a modified and improved version of the previous Sd Kfz.221 armoured car built from 1935. The Sd Kfz.222 was in production from 1936 to 1943 and it was the most numerous lightweight reconnaissance vehicle, with around 1,000 units manufactured. They were built in seven batches, with the first five having the sPkw.I Horch 801 chassis from the Sd Kfz.221, while the last two mounted a new sPkw I type V chassis. The frontal hull armour was reinforced and a turret with a 20mm gun was installed along with a 7.92mm coaxial machine gun. This vehicle was present on all fronts of War, from the desert to Russia and became omnipresent in all reconnaissance units of the Wehrmacht.
