Ladungsleger TIGER

In May 1944 the Allies found a strange Tiger E tank abandoned near Anzio, Italy. In this vehicle the main gun was removed and a winch & derrick assembly was set up in its place, so the Allies thought it was of a conversion carried out by the unit to which it belonged to carry out recovery tasks on other vehicles. The name “Berge-Wg Tiger” or “Bergepanzer Tiger Ausf E” was given and the matter was forgotten, but there was something that did not fit into this name such as armored recovery vehicle (ARV), since the equipment intended for these tasks were of limited capacity and were not installed in the area usually chosen on other recovery vehicles.
