2K12 KUB / SA-6 “GAINFUL”

In 1967, after eight years of study and development, one of the most successful Soviet missiles was put into service. It was the medium-range air defense missile 2K12 KUB, much better known for its NATO designation as SA-6 GAINFUL. It has been in service in more than 30 countries during its long career and still active in more than 20 with modernized versions, but basically the same as the original ones. They had its baptism of fire in the Yom Kippur War, where at the beginning of the combats, it was a lethal surprise for the Israeli pilots who ended up avoiding the areas dominated by the SA-6 Gainful. The half of the Israeli’s aircraft shot down, they were by this missile, which enshrined it as an especially effective weapon.
