YELLOW SUN Mk.1 gallery

In the Yellow Sun Mk.1 thermonuclear bomb almost everything was “supposed”, it was supposed to work when the time came, and that it would be safe, and that it would be efficient, and that it would be reliable …, and all this was supposed because the project was carried out with maximum urgency. Fortunately, it never had the chance to demonstrate, or not, all its capacities.
This bomb lacked a braking system after its launch, the flat front was designed to be the most resistant to air and give the bomber time to get a safe distance. This bomb could only be launched by the RAF V-bombers due to its size and weight. The name Yellow Sun, actually belonged to the outer shell, the warhead was designated as “Green Grass” and never was tested.
