In this Tonnerre‘s image, the scarce distance from the main deck to the sea can be clearly seen. It is likely that this circumstance make the ship embark a lot of water with a slightly agitated sea, but they were not designed to fight on the high seas.This is the Fulminant ship, that like the whole class mounted an engine similar to the wooden Normandie and Gloire frigates. In the tests, the old engine developed a power of 4.165 hp and a maximum speed of 14.7 knots. The range was about 1,400 miles at 10 knots.
