Kh-66 / AS-7 KERRY gallery
The
AS-7 Kerry
was one of the first air to surface missiles developed by the Soviet Union and was distributed to a dozen countries. Although the missile did not have excellent capacities, it allowed attacking land and naval targets from aircraft widely used by allies of the Soviets without making substantial modifications.
The
Kh-23
Grom
missile was command guided and the target must be in sight of the launcher aircraft, something usual in the missiles of that time. The small size of the missile allowed it to be launched by practically any Soviet tactical aircraft. Its solid fuel rocket engine drove up to 2,340 km/h and its warhead of more than 100kg allowed it to destroy any type of armoured vehicle and “soft” buildings.
