COVENANTER bridgelayer gallery

Bridge No. 1 measured 10.36 meters long by 2.90 meters wide and allowed the passage of vehicles of up to 24,000 kg, which meant that most vehicles could pass through it, except the heaviest tanks.
The Covenanter Bridgelayer is one of the first really effective launch vehicles, thanks to its bridge launching speed and its simplicity of use, unlike others bridge launchers models of that time. Above the first road wheel it is visible the hydraulic arm system that launched the bridge.
Although the design can be considered successful, the British Army did not use it in combat, but it was the basis of later bridgelayers vehicles. The Australian Army, on the other hand, used some units in 1942 in Burma.
