The BTR-80A has two sights for the 30mm gun. The 1PZ.9 daytime sight and the TPN.3 / TPN.3-42 “Kristall” nighttime sight. This vehicle carries 300 rounds for the main gun.The 30mm 2A72 gun mount has not reduced the capacity to carry seven soldiers, in addition to the three crewmembers. This capacity is the same as in the BTR-80 armoured personnel carrier variant.BTR-80A infantry fighting vehicle is fully amphibious, reaching in the water up to 10 kph thanks to two hydro-jets. On the front side, there is a breakwater folding board that opens during navigation.The BTR-80A offers fully protection against 7.62mm rounds and artillery shell splinters in the whole vehicle. The front armour protects against all type of 12.7mm rounds.In addition to the gun, the BTR-80A mounts a 7.62mm coaxial machine gun and six 81mm smoke grenade dischargers on the turret, 3 on each side of the gun.
